Cryosurgery
Non-invasive surgery to freeze and kill pet skin disorders.
Does your pet need Cryo-Surgery?
If your pet has a small lesion, growth, or wart etc. the doctor will need to examine your pet first to determine if cryo-surgery is appropriate.
What is it?
Cryo-surgery is a process to rapidly freeze the affected area or lesion and destroy it. Similar to how our doctors do to us for a wart.
Does it hurt?
No, at most they may feel a cold sensation, but it will not cause pain.
How does it work?
First we may shave some hair around the area of the lesion. Then we will take the small aerosol canister and either spray an applicator tip and apply that to the lesion, or we may spray it directly on the pet with an applicator cone. There is no liquid nitrogen involved, but is an alternative that freezes at -94°F. Once the application is applied it works to destroy the tissues of the lesion. A few days after a scab may form, and eventually the growth will fall off, then new healthy tissue will form. We will also send home an ointment for you to use once the scab forms to help with healing.
Keep in mind one treatment may not be enough depending on the size of the lesion and we may need to do a second application. If this happens you must wait a minimum of 28 days to do a reapplication.
